Residential & commercial solar
Solar that pays its own way
Typical Auckland homes save $2,500 to $4,000 a year with payback in 5 to 8 years. We design, install, certify and connect your system, and we stay accountable for it long after.
Residential solar
There is a lot to weigh up when going solar at home: roof orientation, usage patterns, battery sizing, finance. We walk you through every step and manage the entire installation from start to finish, including the paperwork and grid connection.
Commercial solar
Custom systems that cut energy costs where businesses use power most: during the day. We design around your operating profile to reduce grid reliance, hedge against rising prices and put real numbers behind your sustainability commitments.
The basics
How solar works
Photovoltaic panels convert sunlight into DC electricity. An inverter turns that into the AC power your home runs on. Whatever you do not use is either stored in a battery or exported to the grid for bill credits.
Panels generate
Photovoltaic cells turn daylight into DC electricity, even on cloudy Auckland days.
Inverter converts
A Fronius, SigEnergy or Entelar inverter converts DC into usable 230V AC power.
You use or store
Power your home first. Add a battery to keep the surplus for evenings and outages.
Grid buys the rest
Excess generation exports to the grid and earns credits on your power bill.

Assumes Auckland average sun hours, 32c/kWh grid power and 12c/kWh export credits. A battery lifts your daylight self-use figure substantially.
Get the most from it
Maximise your self-consumption
Export credits are nice. Using your own free power is better. Small habits push your savings toward the top of the range.
- Run appliances in daylight. Time dishwashers, washing machines and hot water for solar hours.
- Add battery storage. Shift your surplus into the evening peak instead of selling it cheap.
- Charge your EV from the sun. A solar-ready charger like the Evnex E2 diverts excess generation into your car.
- Watch your monitoring app. Production data shows exactly when to use power for free.
FAQs
Solar questions, answered straight
Typical Auckland households on our systems save between $2,500 and $4,000 a year, with payback in 5 to 8 years. Your exact number depends on system size, roof orientation and how much of your power use happens during daylight. We model it precisely in your free assessment.
Yes. Panels generate from daylight, not just direct sun, so they keep producing on overcast days at reduced output. We size systems using Auckland's real annual sun-hour data, so cloudy stretches are already priced into your savings estimate.
No. Grid-tied systems like our Base package work without storage, and we can design them battery-ready so you add a Powerwall or SigEnergy unit later. If most of your power use is in the evening, a battery usually improves the economics enough to include upfront.
We do. Planet Electrical manages the entire process: system design, lines company application, installation, electrical certification and the final grid connection with your retailer. You do not chase anyone.
Most major NZ banks offer green loans at 0% or near-0% interest for solar, typically up to $80,000 as a home loan top-up. As a SEANZ member installer, our quotes and system designs meet bank application requirements. See our green loans guide for the current bank comparison.
